Thursday, November 12, 2009

  • The group gets anxious when she does not show on Thursday.
  • Logan peeks out, finds the adjacent locker-filled room silent and lit only by a red emergency light.
  • Group dismantles objects in the room to acquire improvised weapons (Logan took Sink Pipe, Carrie took Porcelain Toilet Lid, Christina took Back of a Metal Chair).
  • The lockers are searched. Items found! Mini-Maglite Flashlight, AA Battery ×2, Leather Jacket.
  • Group investigates towards the west, soon discovering the mutilated body of Dr. Summers, missing a jaw. Sanity Check 1/1d4+1
  • Investigate Check Success! Christina discovers that Summers was beaten to death, and the bite marks that cover the corpse are from a human.
  • Party continues forward, eager to leave the Research Facility. At the top of the stairs, however, the party find that the heavy security door locked electronically, but no power appears to be reaching the ground floor.
  • Group heads back down to the basement and investigates the terrarium. Logan gets the idea to use the Fire Escape Map to help them navigate. The group raids a broom closet, allowing Carrie to get rid of her Porcelain Toilet Lid and acquire Christina's Back of a Metal Chair, while Christina takes a Wooden Broom.
  • Logan bashes open a metal storage room door after several attempts. The door makes a loud bang. A mysterious howl and the sound of something banging on a metal door elsewhere in the basement rings in response. The party hides in the storage room until it calms down, then promises themselves to be more quiet. Christina picks of Bottle of Acid ×3 and Nitric Acid.
  • Party investigates Dr. Summer's office, but finds nothing of interest. Dr. Juniper's office holds her laptop, as well as a Messenger Bag.
  • Computer Use Check Failed. The critically low battery prevents Christina from acquiring any useful information about the dream experiment from Dr. Juniper's personal computer.
  • The party notices that one of the terrarium tanks, a large garden-like setup, has been broken. Three ghost lotus plants are seen hiding beneath the bushes, and they do not appear to have been planted there intentionally by the botanists.
  • In the biology lab, the group finds Dr. Summer's laptop, but it happens to be next to an overgrown ghost lotus, which the party is hesitant to touch. They creatively use the broom to slide the laptop to a comfortable distance from the sinister sprout.
  • Computer Use Check Success! Christina is able to discover that the ghost lotus hates all visible light except orange and red, is slain by ultraviolet light, and lacks seeds, most likely reproducing by budding or other forms of self-cloning.
  • The group notices the presence of a nearby staircase on the map, but cannot reach it due to an electronically locked security door. Like the previous one, this door is powerless and cannot be operated. Christina gets the idea to make a bomb to destroy one of the security doors if they cannot find one that is open.
  • They continue onward, and find a trail of black liquid they identify as dried blood leading into one of the bathrooms. They decide to check the nearby rooms to make sure nothing can sneak up on them.
  • The investigators find another chemical storage closet and broom closet, acquiring Glycerin, Bleach, and a Wooden Mop.
  • Carrie attempts to pick the lock on the double doors, which are eerily dented, while Christina picks the door to the electrical room. Christina gets hers open first, which creaks loudly.
  • Something slams into the double doors, which are still closed, and sniffs for the investigators. It soon leaves when the doors prove to be unwilling to move. The investigators are thankful for the short attention span whatever-it-is possesses.
  • The electrical room proves fruitless, as the generator seems to be running, yet providing very little power, and none of them know how to fix it or even if it's broken.
  • Curious about the stairs, the party heads up another staircase, but finds that it leads to an interior room, and the first floor is without power or emergency lighting. They decide to head back to the basement. They at least have light and a map to the basement.
  • The party heads to check out where the blood leads, making sure to check all other bathrooms first. All are empty, but one has a smashed mirror.
  • In the bloody bathroom, the group finds the mutilated, gnawed remains of Dr. Juniper. Sanity Check 1/1d4+1
  • Investigate Check Success! Christina discovers that Juniper was strangled. Like Summers, the bite marks that cover her body are human in origin. The relatively low bleeding indicate that most of the mauling was post-mortem.
  • The group readies themselves to fight whoever is responsible for the deaths of the scientists. They pick the lock on the double doors and open them, soon hearing the raspy breathing of the creature. Logan bangs his pipe on the metal door, alerting it to their presence.
  • The creature is revealed to be human, but utterly mad. He appears to be a college guy, possibly an intern, with wide, horrified eyes and blood covering his body. His teeth and mouth are bloody, indicating that he was the mauler. With a roar, the madman rushes, taking a swing from Logan but continues to fight, seemingly oblivious to the injury. He begins to bludgeon the cage fighter with his wild fists as Carrie and Christina beat him with their cleaning supplies. Carrie breaks the mop with a strike, slashing the attacker with the sharp edge.
  • Logan wrestles the madman to the ground as his companions continue to stab and bludgeon him.
  • In her excitement, Carrie accidentally stabs Logan, badly injuring him. Logan finally knocks the maniac unconscious by bashing his skull against the concrete floor several times. They quickly finish him off, making sure he won't be causing any more problems. They search the maniac's body, soon finding Dr. Summers' jaw. Sanity Check 0/1d3
  • As a courtesy, Carries helps Logan patch up his wounds as the team continues onward.
  • They soon find a chemical lab, which Christina uses to craft a bomb (complex explosive) with the nitric acid, glycerin, bleach, and chemicals already present in the lab. The others stand guard over her while she works.
  • Once the explosives have been created, the party explores the rest of the basement, but find little of interest.
  • Noticing the day is nearing the end, the investigators decide to hide in the research room for the night to recover.

Friday, November 13, 2009

  • Feeling much better after their night of rest, the party heads into the darkened basement, which is now running rather low on power.
  • They check their surroundings because of the unsecured staircase, and find that the trail of dried blood has been eaten and shows small, three-toed paw prints.
  • Eager to leave, Christina and Carrie set up the explosives, and detonate the door that Christina believes leads directly to the parking lot.
  • The explosives are a smashing success, and the party leaves into the sunlight.
  • They find the parking lot and surrounding streets filled with wreckage of cars and dead bodies, some mauled, some killed by cars, some killed by gunshot. Sanity Check 0/1d3
  • As they walk the streets, the survivors realize something has happened while they were in the research facility. Bodies dot the streets, and cars lay in wrecked piles on the roadways.
  • The survivors decide to head to their apartments, and pick up some bikes as they pass Phoebus High School.
  • The group arrives at Christina's apartment, and find it relatively unaltered. As they begin to make themselves at home, they hear a strange chittering from the bathroom. They creep in to find a small, three-legged creature with a scorpion-like tail skittering along the floor behind the toilet. They quickly close the door, and concoct a plan to catch it.
  • Logan arms himself with the trashcan as Carrie and Christina provide support. They find the creature clinging to the glass shower stall, munching on grime.
  • Logan swings but misses, smashing the glass and angering the creature, who sits on the ceiling and chitters. It waves its stinger threateningly, and the group decides to leave it alone.
  • Christina picks up her Backpack from her office/lab. She tells Carrie she's "out of luck" for a messenger bag when the party hears more chittering from the bedroom. They decide to leave due to the infestation.
  • The party next rides across town to Logan's apartment. A few raving maniacs similar to the man in the research center give chase from the darkened buildings, but the survivors easily outrun them with their ten-speeds. They theorize that the chitterers might be driving people to murderous rampages with some kind of venomous sting. They also wonder if the ghost lotuses could be involved.
  • On their way, they stop in a gas station. They find a mysterious blood train leading from the counter up the wall, ending abruptly at the ceiling. Disturbed, they quickly grab flashlights, batteries, and some food.
  • Carrie checks behind the counter, and finds a Glock with 6 rounds remaining. The party leaves in a hurry.
  • Logan's apartment is eerily quiet, and the curtains are drawn. The group hears something approaching the door, which they quickly close, only to hear scratching and the sound of something fiddling with the knob. Logan is dead set on getting his shotgun, however, and kicks open the door to find a black, withered, skeleton-like entity. The monster claws at him while the trio beats it with their lead pipes. Sanity Check 1/1d6
  • It soon falls to the floor, where it continues to be beaten. It smolders and melts away, completely disappearing within seconds. Logan hurries to grab his shotgun, but finds it missing.
  • Hissing and moaning are heard in the bathroom, and movement is heard in the bedroom, prompting the survivors to flee as fast as they can to Carrie's duplex.
  • Everything seems normal there, except for a few ghost lotuses who have taken up residence under the porch.
  • They peak in, and hear chittering.
  • The group decides to brave it, sneaks over to a window, and pulls the blinds open, causing a few angry chitters to emanate from beneath the couch.
  • Carries finds her gun closet, and pulls out a Remington Rifle, Saber, Desert Eagle, Colt Python, Combat Knife, and assorted ammunitions.
